Curtis Abbott
Curtis Abbott, D.Min. is a founding member of the Center for Psychotherapy, Education and Spiritual Growth, Inc. and the Director of Training. Before coming to Oklahoma he was Executive Director of the Newton (Mass.) Youth Foundation and was a Pastor for six years in the St. Louis area while he finished his training and supervision in Pastoral Psychotherapy.
In Oklahoma he was Director of Training and Executive Director for Presbyterian Hospital’s Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy. That Center later became independent as the Samaritan Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy.
Dr. Abbott completed his Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees (with honors) at Andover-Newton Graduate Theological School (Boston Theological Institute). He completed a Residency at Center House, Inc. part of Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston.
For seven years Dr. Abbott was the chief clinical consultant at Samaritan Counseling Centers in Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas and has taught at Phillips Graduate Seminary and the Oklahoma Doctorate program of Southern Methodist University, Perkins School of Theology. In Oklahoma he is one of three Diplomates in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. Diplomates have completed training and certification in teaching and supervision of other Pastoral Psychotherapists. He also is a certified supervisor for Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists. He is, in addition to his certification as Diplomate in AAPC, licensed in Oklahoma as a Professional Counselor and as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
Dr. Abbott teaches, consults and supervises throughout the southwest and provides several advanced training seminars and workshops for therapist each year. He is an Ordained minister in the United Church of Christ (U.C.C.) with Standing in the Kansas/Oklahoma Conference.
